The Tourist Map Dashboard of Tainan City aims to showcase Tainan’s rich cultural heritage, historical sites, and renowned cuisine through an interactive story map. Although Tainan is not as well-known as Taipei, it was once Taiwan’s prosperous capital, with a history spanning over 300 years. This legacy has left the city with numerous ancient buildings and cultural landmarks, making it a prime destination for history and culture enthusiasts.
In addition to its historical significance, Tainan is famous for its food, earning the title of Taiwan’s “Food Capital.” The city is known for its traditional street food, famous dessert shops, and unique culinary culture influenced by its past as a sugar trade hub. This project seeks to introduce Tainan’s must-visit sites and flavors through a dynamic, user-friendly dashboard.
The data for this project was collected from multiple sources:
The map categorizes historical sites, attractions, food destinations, shopping areas, entertainment options, and transportation facilities, making it easier for tourists to plan their trips. Detailed dataset can be downloaded here
I mapped all locations by converting their latitude and longitude coordinates and marked them on the map.
To enhance usability, I categorized locations into five main categories:
Then, I assigned corresponding icons to each location based on its category.
Additionally, I made several improvements to the map interface:
The dashboard allows users to select locations based on type, check real-time operating hours, and explore Tainan’s key attractions interactively.
The final Tourist Map Dashboard offers an interactive experience, enabling users to explore Tainan’s top attractions, historic sites, and culinary hotspots. The map serves as a comprehensive guide for both local and international visitors, helping them efficiently navigate the city and make informed travel decisions.
